A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating construction of nine bridges of the Sussex-Branch Trail along the former (Erie)-Lackawanna Railroad will be held August 7, 1999 at 10 A.M at Warbasse Junction.

Hosted by the state park Service, the event will include a family hiking clinic and a 'rails-to-trails' history tour.

The wooden bridges, constructed in Andover, Lafayette and Frankford, either replaced deteriorating spans or filled in gaps in a nearly continuous 20-mile stretch of trail. The bridge improvements were made with $250,000 in state funds and $1 million in federal funds.

The Sussex Branch trail, which is part of Kittatinny Valley State Park, disconnects in Newton where the former railroad meandered {?} through town when it was in service from 1848 {1854 actually} to 1966.

The trail also intersects with the Paulinskill Valley Trail and traverses through a portion of Allamuchy Mountain State Park, offering access to Cranberry Lake and Waterloo Village in Byram.
