Town to Oppose RR Service Cut
Newton Town Attorney Albert Silverman has been directed
by the town committee to appear before the New Jersey Public Utilities
Commission Oct. 5 in opposition to the application of the Lackawanna
Railroad to discontinue all passenger service on its Boonton Line, which
includes Sussex County.
The action was taken by the town committee Monday night
when notification of the pending hearing before the PUC was received.
The railroad seeks permission to discontinue the service on the grounds
that it is losing money through the operation because of a drop in passenger
patronage.
