Another R.R. Station Gone
D.L.& W.R.R. Co. given Permission to Discontinue
            Augusta Station

The change in transportation conditions in New Jersey
has brought many railroad changes in Sussex county during the past twenty
years. The last being the abandonment of the railroad station on the
          D. L. & W. R. R. at Augusta, which is also a junction with the L.
          & N. E. R. R.

The State Board of public Utility Commissioners has
approved the discontinuance of passenger service at Augusta in accordance
with an application made by the railroad company. The ruling held that
business fallen off at the station and its continued maintenance is
          no longer necessary.

Less than twenty five years ago, an agent remained
in the station during the day, and was called upon to change the signals
many times during the day so that trains either on the D. L. & W.
          R. R. or the L. & N. E. R. R. would have the right of way and could
pass by the station. Business gradually declined and the hours of the
agent were reduced until he worked only a few hours each day and this
service was finally discontinued after the agent was placed on the pension
          list.

The discontinuance of this station is similar to that
of several others on railroads crossing Sussex county. Several of the
stations along the L. & H. R. Ry. have been discontinued within
the past score of years, because of a decline of passengers and the
amount of freight business to and from local stations. There has been
no passenger service on this railroad {the L&HR -DR} between
Warwick and Belvidere for several years.
