Franklin Viaduct Completed
Final Inspection to be made Monday by Representatives
of Railroads, Town and County Officials
Franklin Correspondent.
Final inspection of the large viaduct over the railroads
at Franklin will be made Monday by representatives of the three railroads
interested in the improvement, the mayor and borough council of Franklin
and the Board of Freeholders and the County Engineer. The work is completed,
except for the paving with concrete of the approaches and these will
be left for a time to settle. The viaduct will be opened to traffic
in early July. The work was done under the direction of the Erie Railroad
company engineers. That road on behalf of the New York, Susquehanna
& Western Railroad contributed equally to the cost of the big structure
along with the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western and Lehigh & Hudson
River Railroads, Franklin Borough and Sussex County. The viaduct will
carry traffic, both motor and pedestrian, over the tracks of the three
railroads from fowler street, Franklin to the concrete pavement of the
Franklin-North Church road. Three grade crossings, two narrow underpasses
and a narrow bridge will be eliminated by the improvement. The structure
has been several months in construction. Exercises in dedication of
the viaduct may follow inspection.
