The engineers of the Midland Company commenced
the survey of the proposed road from Newton to Ogdensburg on Wednesday
of this week. The distance will be between seven and a half and eight
miles, with easy grades. With this road in operation the extortions of
the Del. Lack. & Western and the Sussex Roads will be at an end. Wholesome
competition in transportation is what our business and producing interests
needs at this time. The want of it has been severely felt and it can only
be endured at a sacrifice of our material interests.
