ACCIDENT ON THE SUSSEX RAIL ROAD -- On Tuesday morning
last, as the workmen were engaged in bringing a hand-car, from Drake's
Pond to the depot, and a flat-car behind it, for repairs, Mr. Wm. Bushkirk,
boss of the track, in attempting to get off to turn the switch, in advance
of the arrival of the cars, his foot slipped, and the lever of the car
striking him, he was thrown down between the two cars, by which his head
was badly cut and shoulders injured. He is now under the physician's care.
Had this accident occurred on the Morris road, the Register would
have charged it to Mr. Randolph, as it did a similar incident the other
day.
PUTTING DOWN THE IRON ON THE SUSSEX EXTENSION -- The work of laying down
the iron on the Sussex Road, between Drake's Pond and Lafayette, is now
going on rapidly. Mr. Noble, Chief Engineer of the road, assures us, that
one week from Monday next, the Locomotive will be running to Lafayette.
Thee rail is of a much heavier pattern than that used on the Sussex Road
between Newton and Andover, and is a sample of the bars with which the
track will be laid to Franklin. The ties are also much larger and stronger
than those at present in use on the Sussex Road, and when the track is`completed
and ballasted to the Wallkill Valley, there will be no more substantially
built road in this country than the Sussex Road. Work on the Branchville
division, from Lafayette to Branchville, will go on immediately upon its
completion to Lafayette, and the work upon both divisions will be completed
before winter sets in.
